River Bend Nature Center, Racine County, WI
River Bend Nature Center
River Bend Nature Center (RBNC) is a 78-acre preserve in eastern Racine County with unspoiled woods, wetlands, and over 4,000 feet of riverfront. It focuses on environmental education and family outdoor leisure.
The RBNC, which is run as a charity, has two rustic structures for meeting space and instruction and an outdoor pavilion. In the winter, there is also a network of marked hiking routes that are used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Waldron Construction, Kitchen & Bath is owned and operated by Joe and Tasha Waldron. Waldron Construction has Over 75+ Years Combined Staff Experience and a large knowledge base related to building and remodeling homes as well as overseeing commercial projects. We recognize that our largest asset is our team.
Joe and Tasha
Rentable skis and snowshoes are available. RBNC rents canoes and kayaks in the summer and fall (May to October). Throughout the year, RBNC sponsors special events. The center’s Sugarin’ Off Pancake Breakfasts (February and March) use maple syrup from the center’s own trees.
The silence of a tranquil, snowy wood, punctuated only by the swish of gliding skis, the delighted squeal of school children imagining what a deer looks like after seeing its tracks embedded in the soft mud, a forest awash in the glorious colors of autumn that frame the walk of solitary hikers, the gurgling sounds of the Root River as it rushes past a child and her mother sitting aside the bank, and the smell of syrup and the buttery taste of pancakes that celebrate the marvel of what maple trees produce — these are the sounds, sights and smells that have been part of the River Bend Nature Center experience for the citizens of Racine County since John F. Kennedy was President.
The Racine YWCA has successfully maintained River Bend Nature Center for 50 years, giving environmental education, outdoor leisure, and pleasant memories to thousands of Racine County children, adults, and families.
Unfortunately, the YWCA had to sell this valuable natural resource to sustain its primary operations. Fortunately, Racine County stepped in and purchased the site on the condition that River Bend is continued by a non-profit organization unrelated to the YWCA.
For novices or seasoned outdoor enthusiasts, the 78 acres and two activity buildings provide a very accessible and comfortable setting. Nearly 4,000 feet of Root River frontage, river-bottom acreage, ponds, and uplands hardwoods make up the center. The diversified topography is crisscrossed by miles of hiking routes.
On the site, you can see most of the birds and animals that are native to southeast Wisconsin. River Bend is close by for those looking for a few hours of peace on the weekend or after work. Our community’s River Bend Nature Center is a valuable resource – a place to visit, enjoy, and remember for the next 50 years and beyond.

Testimonials From Our Satisfied Customers
We started off not knowing what we wanted, but knew we needed a new kitchen and flooring for most of our first floor, which was overwhelming to us. We worked with Liz to help us design what we wanted. She was fabulous and patient with us. Timelines were met and the crew who worked with us ended up feeling like part of the family. When faced with some pretty big “snags,” which were of no fault of Waldron Construction, Joe was professional, pushed to make things right, and kept his word; The team went above and beyond and did excellent work.
Such a great team of professionals. We had our kitchen remodeled and Waldron Construction was very helpful and thorough. A little future advice for anyone considering a major remodel is to expect delays and the need to make changes due to supply availability or unforeseen issues. Joe Waldron treats you with great respect and is very driven to make sure you are very satisfied and happy with your remodel. Some may feel the expense is too high…but you do get what you pay for. Thank you for a very beautiful kitchen, Nancy and Gary
We just completed our dream kitchen remodel with Waldron Construction. We are extremely pleased with the results. Angie helped us through the design and was always a text/phone call away. The trades were excellent and were great to work with. Of course there were hiccups in the process but nothing that couldn’t be worked out. Having the schedule in front of us daily through builder trend was great too. Joe was very responsive whenever we had questions or concerns. We would recommend Waldron for your next home improvement project..
