Built in 1889 as City Hall, the Woodstock Opera House has long been one of the top-performing arts centers in the Midwest and is the jewel of McHenry County!
Concerts, Theatre, Dance, Visual Art, Educational programming, Lectures, Meetings, Receptions, and other events are all held at the Woodstock Opera House throughout the year. The Opera House has been completely refurbished while maintaining its historical integrity.
Waldron Construction, Kitchen & Bath is owned and operated by Joe and Tasha Waldron. Waldron Construction has Over 75+ Years Combined Staff Experience and a large knowledge base related to building and remodeling homes as well as overseeing commercial projects. It comes equipped with modern sound, lighting, stage rigging, heating, air conditioning, and other features. The Opera House also has a state-of-the-art Box Office and a wonderfully appointed welcome area, as well as the popular Stage Left Café.
The City of Woodstock owns and operates the Opera House, which is dedicated to the development and support of the performing arts in northern Illinois. The Historic Woodstock Square’s brick-paved streets, which are filled with stores, boutiques, cafes, galleries, and year-round special events, are guarded by the Opera House and the Old Courthouse. The Woodstock Opera House, the square, and many other locations in town will be familiar to fans of the film “Groundhog Day.”
The Woodstock Opera House soon realized it needed to expand as a result of its success. The city bought the long-vacant site next door, and the opera house addition was finished in 2003.
The annex, which was about a third of the size of the opera house, offered much-needed space for offices, backstage areas, a giant freight elevator, restrooms, and the most popular feature, Stage Left Café. Stage Left, which is decorated in a backstage pattern, hosts regular entertainment and may be rented out for private events.
Each year, more than 600 amateur and professional events and activities are held at the Woodstock Opera House. It serves the community as a gathering space for programs of all sizes and scopes, just as it did in its early years.
Townsquare Players and Woodstock Musical Theatre Company are two neighborhood theatre companies that call it home. It also houses the Judith Svalander Dance Theatre, the Woodstock Mozart Festival, and the Woodstock Fine Arts Association, which has been in operation for nearly 50 years.
Whether you call it the “Opera House,” “Old City Hall,” the “Crown Jewel of McHenry County” or, in the words of Orson Welles, “the grand capital of mid-Victorianism in the Midwest,” the Woodstock Opera House continues to endure and flourish as the center of the arts in northern Illinois and remains a top attraction for visitors of the county.

We just completed our dream kitchen remodel with Waldron Construction. We are extremely pleased with the results. Angie helped us through the design and was always a text/phone call away. The trades were excellent and were great to work with. Of course there were hiccups in the process but nothing that couldn’t be worked out. Having the schedule in front of us daily through builder trend was great too. Joe was very responsive whenever we had questions or concerns.
